Health tourism has become an important tourism trend in our country and around the world in recent years. Türkiye is positioned as one of the ideal places for health tourism owing to its advanced technological infrastructure, qualified healthcare personnel, high-quality service delivery, climate, history, nature, and thermal resources, as well as its easy accessibility thanks to Turkish Airlines, flying to more destinations than any other airline in the world.
To ensure the best quality service delivery for people choosing Türkiye for international health care, the Ministry of Health set out the principles and procedures regarding the authorization of healthcare facilities and intermediaries to make sure that they operate at international standards and to govern their activities in accordance with the Regulation no. 30123 on International Health Tourism and Tourist Health published in the Official Gazette of 13 July 2017.
Therefore, services received by foreigners specifically coming to Türkiye for healthcare or who happen to be in Türkiye for any reason and are willing to receive health services are under the guarantee of healthcare facilities and intermediaries accredited by the government. In accordance with the relevant regulation, all healthcare facilities and intermediary organizations offering international medical tourism services must receive an International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate.
However, by presidential decree, Uluslararası Sağlık Hizmetleri Anonim Şirketi (USHAŞ - International Health Services Ltd.), founded in 2019 under the Ministry of Health of Türkiye, is the only agency authorized to support and coordinate the above-mentioned activities to ensure their reliable performance in Türkiye, and make recommendations on service delivery standards and accreditation. As part of this authority, USHAŞ set up the International Health Services and Tourism Platform. All information included and services offered in this platform are devised by the Advisory Board consisting of public and private sector stakeholders operating in health tourism and such information is published under the guarantee of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye.
Accordingly, all facilities included in the Health Türkiye Platform operate within the framework set by the law. Authorized to deliver health services for health tourism purposes, all our facilities are subject to regular surveillance and continuous improvement to ensure that you get the highest quality service.
Similarly, intermediary organizations providing health tourism services in Türkiye and facilitating the service process are regularly monitored as per the above-mentioned regulation, and only authorized institutions can provide international health services. These institutions provide 24/7 service in at least two languages and are responsible for transparently providing all kinds of information about the processes to the tourists who would like to receive health tourism services. Intermediary organizations are tasked with informing health tourists about travelling in our country, passport processes, urban transport, communication, consular procedures, healthcare facilities, and the processes related to the desired health service. In addition, as stipulated by the regulation, intermediary organizations also provide the following services: accommodation of health tourists in our country as well as logistics such as their transfer to the international health tourism facility, return to home country, contact with the international health tourism unit in the facility, their transfer from the facility upon discharge, all supervised by the government.
